Genius Scan is an easy, portable solution to document scanning. Here's how to scan single-page and multipage documents.

Scan Your First Document

Scanning with Genius Scan is quick and intuitive. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Open Genius Scan on your device.

  2. Tap the + (plus) button to start a new scan.

  1. Position your document within the camera view. Genius Scan will detect it automatically. Genius Scan will snap the photo for you if it detects a stable document, so you don't have to tap the Scan button. You can also trigger it by pressing the volume up button instead.

  1. Tap the shutter button to capture the scan, or let Genius Scan do it for you if auto-capture is enabled. The number in the white circle indicates the number of documents already scanned in the current batch.

  2. Genius Scan is in Batch mode by default so you can keep scanning documents to create a multipage document. Tap the ✓ button when you're done scanning documents.

Maximize a scan (revert auto-cropping)

Genius Scan’s auto-cropping is a built-in feature designed to automatically identify and crop your documents accurately. While this feature cannot be disabled, you can always edit your scans manually if needed. If you prefer to keep the full image without auto-cropping, you can expand the document after scanning to include the entire captured area.

  1. Tap a document to open it, and then tap the Edit button at the bottom of your screen.

  2. In Edit, tap the Recrop button.

  1. Tap Maximize to revert your document back to the original photo.

  1. Tap a document to open it, and then tap the Edit toolbar at the bottom of your screen.

  2. In Edit, tap the Recrop button.

Disable Auto-Capture

Genius Scan’s auto-capture feature allows you to scan documents without manually tapping the screen—simply position your document, and the app will capture it automatically. If you prefer to take more time to adjust your document before scanning, you can disable this feature in Genius Scan > Settings > General > Auto-Capture.
